2013 A Year To Forget

Post image for 2013 A Year To Forget

As most of you have noticed I just disappeared after I wrote my Christmas Post. I really did not mean to do that. I knew exactly what I was going to write in my next two posts and then it happened…

2013 Ended As Bad As It Began!

2013 was not a good year

I feel like I am still digging out of the trash 2013 dumped on me!

2013 Began

with the realization that our renters out on the farm were not only moving out during the winter which would make it difficult to rerent the house but they had also destroyed the house before moving out leaving the house uninhabitable. We soon realized that it would cost $55,000 to have someone else fix our house for us.

Not having that kind of money to spend, we set out to do the repairs ourselves. This meant spending every weekend all year long and about $20,000 making all of the repairs necessary to eventually rerent or sell the house.

We finished all of the repairs on the farm house just before Christmas. At that point we thought everything was good.

2013 Ended

with us receiving a notice from the IRS that we were being audited again.

Being audited is not so bad as we have been audited before for the same reason and won. I have no doubt that we will win again but it takes about 40 to 80 hours to put all of the documents together and get them to the person representing us for these audits.

Spending 40 to 80 hours on a tax audit right around Christmas and New Years is not very fun. I actually put off doing this until the first of 2014. This did not make the person representing us very happy with me.

Well there you have my life during 2013 in a nutshell.

2014

2014 Began

about the same way 2013 ended but I decided to sit down and make some goals to get through all of this quickly.

Goals for January 2014

What follows are my goals for January of 2014. I have achieved some of them already.

  1. Finish audit for 2012    GotItDone
  2. Do taxes for 2013 and submit them early so maybe we can GotItDone possibly  prevent another audit
  3. Finish the 2 law suits associated with the damage done to      InProgress  the farm house by the renters and a contractor we hired to repair roofs.
  4. Rent or sell the house on the farm.    InProgress

There you have it.

This is why I have been MIA for the last few weeks and will not be back blogging again for a couple more weeks.

My next post will be the post I intended to write as my first post in 2014. I will lay out my goals for the rest of the year. I intend to have goals that are similar to the ones above in the sense that I can actually check them off as I accomplish them.

I really appreciate everyone being patient with me as I struggle to accomplish these tasks that take me away from my blog.

My intention is to start blog commenting on a small scale as I finish my goals for January and to start writing posts again in early to mid February.

See You In February

I very much look forward to seeing everyone again in February 2014 and I intend to make 2014 a much better year than 2013 was.

I would love to hear from you…

I know that I have not been around much and have not commented on your blog for a while but I would still love to hear from you.

Leave me a comment to just say “Hi” or tell me what your last year was like. Maybe there are others out there who were not treated well by 2013.

Hey Dee Ann,

I know you’ve been so swamped and when it rains it pours I’m afraid. I know though that I appreciate you sharing with us where you’ve been because if I didn’t talk to you each week I would have contacted you to make sure you’re okay.

I really admire you though for what you’ve been able to get done even though it’s taken you offline. That’s a lot of stuff for you to be hit with one right after the other. You can do it though because you’re just a take charge kind of person.

Looking forward to what you’ll be sharing with us for what’s on your agenda for the year. I know that if you attack it with a vengeance like you did all of this then you’ll definitely be successful.

Hope you have a great week and stay warm.

Adrienne,

2013 was quite a year and the first part of 2014 was not much better. I think I am finally getting to the end though. I am getting all of my replies done and am going to start writing my post that was to be my first post of 2014. It will be 6 weeks late but at least I will get it done and move on.

Thanks for you comment and for stopping by my blog. Sorry this reply is so late.

Hi Dee Ann; sorry to hear about all those troubles. I am glad to see that you are using them to plan a happier and more fruitful 2014. you are setting a great example for us on goal setting. You set achievable goals or at least some that you can make progress on and realistically check them off your list by the end of the year. and your next post will also be a lesson in proper goal setting. I wish you the best of luck with the suits and selling the house. my year was pretty good except for the one client who refused to pay. It would have had to be the largest commission i had coming. smile i sold a lot more but didn’t clear a whole lot more than the previous year. still my blog improved in traffic and its alexa ranking. and i finally started recording videos. Thanks for keeping us informed and i will be looking forward to your next post in february. take care, max

It’s almost February now..so, I hope everything went well (if not, I wish you good luck :D).

I know you have been busy, so thank you for letting us know, Dee Ann :)

2013 was a great year for me – learned a lot of stuff and formed a lot of habits (plus, I got back to blogging). So, it’s all good.

As for 2014, I am off to a rough start (not in terms of getting things done), just slacking off here and there – I probably could have wrote a few guest posts and meet/exceed my traffic goals.

It’s okay though…I am just considering it as the time to get used to the new schedule and new school (Yup, I just transferred). Hopefully, Feb will be better :D

Waiting for your next post :D Good luck with the new year!

Jeevan,

Thanks for stopping by my blog and commenting when I have been so late getting any replys up.

I think I am finally at the end of my things that have to be done offline. Not that I am done. I still have to file the lawsuit, I have to get my house sold or rented and I have to do the last lawsuit when the criminal case if complete but I am done with the time consuming parts of it.

I am excited to start writing posts again and get back where I am communicating with people again. I have missed all of my online friends.

Thanks again.

Hi Dee Ann
That sounds super horrible!
People who destroy something they rent – line em up and !
I hope your 2014 is a much more successful one as that and being audited must be very taxing (no pun intended).
see you round the blogs
