Fear is something that we all deal with at sometime or another. It can cripple us from making progress no matter what it is we are trying to do.

I think many times we do not recognize that what is stopping us from achieving something we really want is actually fear. We may not even consciously realize we have a fear.

Many people have a fear of succeeding and because of this fear they sabotage their own success as they start to get close to succeeding.

Bloggers have fears as well and these fears dictate the success of the bloggers blog. The topic of a fear when blogging comes up all of the time when I am talking to other bloggers or people who want to get started blogging.

In order to get past our fears we need to address what our fears are and then work at moving past our fears.

I thing the best way to address a fear and move past it is to just do whatever it is we are afraid of. Even better is to go and get someone to walk you through the process the first time. Having someone who will teach you how to do everything will take most of the fear out of getting started blogging.

Fears Most New Bloggers Have

  1. Domain Name – Will the domain name I pick be a good one for my blog?
Picking a domain name can be stressful. I have at times spent days fretting over domain names and which one will be the right one for what I am going to be blogging about.
Think about what you are branding. Do you want to brand yourself? If so then you can use your name as your domain.
If you are making a domain for a MLM you are selling products for, you need to avoid branding the parent company. Be sure you are branding yourself or your business.
The best thing I have found to help me pick a domain name is to choose several I think might work, write them down along with what I want to achieve with my blog or what my blog will be about and send them to several friends. I will then ask my friends what domain they like or if they have more ideas.

  1. Hosting – How do I find hosting that is good and will work with me?
If you know someone who blogs ask them who they use or recommend for hosting. This is a great way to find out about hosting companies.
If you are reading this blog then you are at least aquainted with bloggers. Every blogger has a hosting account of some sort and will be more than willing to give you recommendations on hosting they like or don’t like.

  1. Installing WordPress – How do I install WordPress?
This is a fear that I had when I was just starting. I was so afraid that I would not get my blog set up right.
Really the only way to get over this fear is to set up a blog or don’t deal with it at all and have someone else set up your blog the first time.
As you use a blog you will become more familiar with just how a blog works and you will be able to set up a blog in the future with much less or no fear.

  1. WordPress Admin and cPanel – How do I use the WordPress admin area and the cPanel? Will I really mess something up if I go into the cPanel?
The WordPress Admin area is somewhere that you will have to become acquainted with in order to blog. This area is really not that complicated and you cannot do anything in it that cannot be reversed.
The best way to overcome this fear is to go into the Admin area and start playing around, see how things work. You should very quickly figure out how everything works.
The cPanel is a different story. You can delete your entire blog quite easily in the cPanel. But it takes actually clicking on something and deleting it so go in and start getting familiar with the cPanel by looking around. The more you look around the more you will figure out where things are and how the whole cPanel works. There is no harm in just looking around.

  1. Header – How do I get a header made for my blog and what should it look like?
This is another area that I have spend hours, days and even weeks trying to figure out just what I wanted my header to look like.
Going to other people’s blogs and looking at lots of different headers is a great way to figure out what you like and what you do not.
Fiverr is a great place to start out getting a header made. There are some really good graphic artists on there. Another way to find a good graphic artist is to ask other bloggers who made their header or who did the artwork on their blog for them.
If you are artistic you can always make your own header. I am not very good at that kind of thing but have made my own header in the past. I made a very simple one so it worked for me.

  1. Writing A Post – How do I write a post that people will want to read?
This was my biggest fear when I started blogging. I was terrified of writing something that someone else might actually read.
I had spoken in front of hundreds of people and done webinars where it did not bother me to talk but when it came to writing stuff down for people to read I was terrified.
I did not know why anyone would ever want to read what I wrote after all I knew nothing about blogging.
I think the only way to get over this fear is to just write a post and then write another one and another one and pretty soon it will not be so scary to write posts.

  1. Commenting – How do I write a comment that will add value to the post?
If you are afraid of writing a post commenting is probably a fearful thing also.
When I wrote my first comment it was on Barry Wells’ blog. Barry is no longer on the internet but he is a really great guy. He knew I was new to blogging and made me feel very welcome on his site. My comment was not as clear as it should have been but Barry very nicely clarified what I was saying for me. This made me realize that people were not going to scrutinize everything I did but they were actually there to help me. I never feared commenting again after that.

Getting Help

I know new bloggers have many fears. As a new blogger you are about to embark on something that is very different from most anything you have ever done before. Blogging can be complicated so get help when you need it.

A great way to get help is to hire a coach. A coach can put up your blog for you the first time. They will be there to help you with choosing a domain and getting a hosting service. They know where to get headers made and can answer all of your questions.

Basically a coach can walk you though the whole process and it is well worth the money. You will be up and blogging in no time.

Do You Need Help Getting Your Blog Started

I am eager to help you get started so here is what you’ll need to do. Click here and tell me where you are right now and we’ll set up a time to discuss how I can help you so that you are up and running in no time.

I Love Comments

I would love to hear your thoughts on my post. Leave me a comment and let me know your fears. I don’t think we ever grow out of our fears as we blog. We just find new fears we conquer the old fears.

If you are an experience blogger share how you have conquered your fears, what some of you fears have been or are now.

New bloggers let me know what your fears are now.

If you find this post interesting or useful could you please share it with your friends? Thank you.

Hey Dee Ann,

Fear is a horrible thing, it can paralyze you to the point that you never start. Or you can start but never get very far.

I learned something very valuable from you a few years back and this was after I’d had my blog up for years. While some people can easily install their WordPress blogs, they don’t fully understand that by doing it that way it’s an accident waiting to happen. That you database tables need to be renamed and it’s much easier to do that from the very start then go back years later and rename them all. We ran into a lot of issues when doing mine. Paying someone to do it right the first time is the best way to go hands down.

All of what you’ve shared here, it can be overwhelming for any new blogger. You’re anxious to get things started and begin your blogging journey but there is a lot you actually have to learn how to do. It’s a great process though and very rewarding once that’s all in place but I wish I’d had someone like you when I was starting this that walked me through what to do.

Thank you for doing that here and I know those that need this advice will really find it helpful.

Fear can definitely be paralyzing and totally destroy any hope of every succeeding in what you are trying to accomplish.

I have been paralyzed by fear in the past and think I am still suffering from fear at times. I very easily tend to fail when I come to a road block. I am trying to not let this happen again.

I had a product all ready to release when I ran into what I thought was a major road block and ended up not releasing it at all. I have sat on that product for several years now because of my fear. I plan on remedying that this year.

I think many people fail at blogging before they start because of fear. They have so much fear, then something goes wrong and they end up quitting.

If I was starting out today I would definitely hire a coach to help me get started. I tried to hire a coach several times when I was starting out. There was nothing out there like there is now. I was willing to pay a lot of money, up to $2500, for someone to help me get started, get my blog going and get me in front of the right people.

The biggest thing is not to let fear control whether we succeed or not.

Thanks for your comment and for all of your help you give me. I really appreciate it. Talk soon.

Excellent points Dee Ann!

And for sure, we’ve all let the fear monster,
prevent us from doing so many things!

Things that were certainly within our immediate ability to accomplish!

But that little voice inside our head, just continually grows louder
and louder!

And because, for the most part, we’re trying to go it alone, we so often fail!

Great advice Dee Ann!Thanks so much for sharing it!

You really hit the nail on the head about why we fail.

All to often we give into fear and the only result is failure. This is why we need to keep our eyes on our dreams and keep moving forward.

We also need to network with other people so we are not in it alone where fear can get a grasp on us.

Thanks for you comment and for stopping by my blog.

Dee Ann
