How To Upload A Video To A Blog Post

Listen with webreader

In this post I want to show you how to post a video to you blog.

To do this I am going to actually create this post as we go, or at least that is the plan.

I have made two short videos that will be posted here.  I will post one using YouTube and the other by uploading the video to the blog using an FTP program.

Those two videos will be toward the end of the post.

Please watch the following video on how to embed a video in your post.

Following this video you will find the two sample videos I posted.

Below will be where we will upload the two short videos that I made for that purpose. This way you can see how they look and how they are different from each other.

This is a video produced and uploaded to YouTube.

This is a video produced and uploaded with the FTP program.

  • Hi Dee Ann, 2 great lessons in one video congratulations.

I’ve wanted to know about how you uploaded via FTP for a while but haven’t pursued it as I haven’t needed it yet…. but now that i have Camtasia I’ll be more inclined to do so ;)

Great lessons and a great entry to my challenge Dee Ann, thanks for taking part and adding value to it.

    Barry,

Thank goodness I have Camtasia so I can edit my video. Some how the sound and visual got off. I had to go in and edit the visual separate from the sound. It was a mess. So I did not get it edited as much as I would of liked. I would of cut more but I ran out of time. It was a mess.

I guess I did do two lessons but wanted to compare the two as both are valuable to know.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great week.

  • Great post and great job on showing us how to upload videos to our blog whichever way we choose. I did click on the 2nd video and it says “The Video is Private” and won’t play. Not exactly sure why.

You have outdone yourself young lady, I’m very impressed! Way to go Dee Ann, way to go.

    Andy,

I knew how to upload a video via FTP but the first time I did it, it took me forever because I did not realize that I had to upload the entire folder. I tried all kinds of plugins and everything else before a friend told me to just upload the entire folder. Then I got rid of the plugins because you do not need them. They just make it that much more complicated.

Glad you learned something from my video.

    Thanks for stopping and commenting.

Geez Dee Ann, I could reeeally have done with the video you have here last week. You have just saved someone from hair lose, alot of swearing (words of which are probably not even published) and followed by an over indulgence of alcoholic beverages.

They are super and will be well appreciated by anyone who has never made and uploaded a video before. And, I must say, I did do it right ….. eventually! ;-)

Thank you Dee Ann for sharing that information. Super ;-)

Sorry, you are lucky that you got it this week with the problems I had producing the video. You can thank Barry for having the challenge because without having to get it to him by Monday I would of given up for a couple of days or weeks.

I know what you mean thought about ripping out hair and swearing. When I went to upload a video by FTP a couple of weeks ago that was me. I did it all right but did not upload everything that needed to be. Should of asked for help sooner but finally got it done.

    Hi Dee Ann

I understand how to cut and paste the generated link/code from youtube into your wordpress blog- but I can’t work out how to generate your own code for the video- is this possible or is it something you have to generate through a major site?
Grant recently posted..Corporate event photographyMy Profile

    [Reply]

    Dee Ann Rice Reply:

    Grant,

There is no code for a video that you produce and upload via FTP. You just need to upload what ever files you get from the program you are using to generate the video. If you are taking a video with a cell phone or camera I would think you would need to produce it using some program. I use camtasia and am not real familiar with other programs. With camtasia though I can upload media files and then use camasia to produce the video to be loaded onto my website.

Don’t know if that helped or not. If you watched the video I show you how to upload via FTP to a website but I produced the video using camtasia. There is a free version of camtasia called camstudio I think and it would produce a video for you. You can not edit when using the free version though.

    Hi Dee Ann,

    Great video! :D

I had no idea how to upload the video via ftp to our blogs. I was actually wondering about that the other day as Youtube has recently changed it’s policies and does not recommend that you promote products via video on their service.

A lot of marketers are having their accounts closed because they are promoting affiliate products etc.

So for promotion videos I was wondering how to host them. Showing the ftp upload has now solved that. Cool!!

I hope everything is going well.

See you back here soon!

    Jacinta D Reply:

    Hi Dee Ann,

Youtube states in their terms in part 4: ‘General use of service’ part D it says:

You agree not to use the Service for any of the following commercial uses unless you obtain YouTube’s prior written approval:

    The sale of access to the Service;
    The sale of advertising, sponsorships, or promotions placed on or within the Service or Content;
Or the sale of advertising, sponsorships, or promotions on any page of an ad-enabled blog or website containing Content delivered via the Service, unless other material not obtained from YouTube appears on the same page and is of sufficient value to be the basis for such sales.

    —————————-

This is really a gray area. It leaves it open to interpretation. The way I read that is we can promote our own business or what we are doing, but they are frowning on paid promotion.

Therefore I would assume promoting an affiliate product or link would be considered a paid promotion.

I am not a lawyer or anything like that but I have been hearing of some big marketers having their accounts removed after years of being a member because of this reason.

I am glad I found this out early before doing any promotions. At least now thanks to your video training. I can create a promotional video and upload it direct to my website direct!! Yay!

    Hope all is going well.

    Cheers

Hi DeeAnn, great tutorial. I too did not know how to upload via ftp, and I am concerned about Jacinta’s point about YouTube, although my actual video channel has no advertising for paid products, although it does have a link back to my website and I post the videos on my site via a link too. Looks like I’m contravening their rules, as we all are if we advertise products on our blogs. Interesting.

    Enjoy the journey.

I must say that creating a video can be very time consuming, but the benefit of it is very promising. Personally, as an internet user, I would rather choose to watch a video rather than reading a long post of blog. Maybe same thing applies to others so it’s important for me to know how to upload my very own video that I need to include in my post. Thanks for teaching us!

I uploaded the mp4 file which I thought was the video file and thought the rest of the files were if I wanted to use the video in another way. I actually went back and uploaded the flash file and installed software I thought I needed to make it run and still no luck.
