My 7 Links – It’s A Challenge

December 6, 2011 | By Dee Ann Rice

7 links challenge
I was nominated recently by 3 people, Julie Dunlop, Kathy Dobson and Linda Bond to do the “7 Links Challenge”.  This challenge seems to be going around the internet right now.  It is a fun challenge to do.

What is the 7 Links Challenge?

The following gives you all the information on the 7 Links Challenge. (The information is taken from

1)     Blogger is nominated to take part2)     Blogger publishes his/her 7 links on his/her blog – 1 link for each category. This shouldn’t take you long to do – don’t over-think it!– Your most beautiful post
– Your most popular post
– Your most controversial post
– Your most helpful post
– A post whose success surprised you
– A post you feel didn’t get the attention it deserved
– The post that you are most proud of3)     Blogger nominates up to 5 more bloggers to take part.(Feel free to nominate any kind of blog to take part – we want this project to be as inclusive as possible!)4)     These bloggers publish their 7 links and nominate another 5 more bloggers5)    And so it goes on!

So after careful thought and pondering I have come up with my 7 Links.

Here they are —

Most Beautiful Post

Veterans DayI think my most beautiful post would have to be Veterans Day – A Day To Honor Those Who Served.

I don’t know that it was a beautiful post visually so much, but because of the topic.

In this post I wanted to honor all veterns but I dedicated the post to my father.

My father, who is gone now, waited over 50 years to receive his official discharge from the military alowing him to be recognized as a veteran.

I think this post was beautiful because I honored those who had fought to give us the life we have to day.

Most Popular Post

My Blog Has Been HijackedMy most popular post by far was My Blog Has Been Hijacked!!.

I had the most comments on this post.  Some of this is thanks to Barry Wells who set out to get 100 comments on this post.  He felt that this is something that everyone should be aware of.

I have 76 comments at this time.  I didn’t make it to 100 but thought that I was doing really good to get 76 at that time since my blog was less than 2 months old.

This a post about someone stealing all the content our of my blog and putting it on there blog.  It was really the only current content on their blog.

Most Controversial Post

A Fish StoryThis is a tough catagory for me. I tend not to be controversial but I finally picked the post I did called A Fish Story!

This was a post on staying focused and moving forward so you actually make progress towards a goal instead of spending all of your time preparing to move forward.

I used a fishing trip and my son as an example.  He spent the whole fishing trip preparing his line so he could fish.  Needless to say he never caught a fish due to the fact that he never got done preparing his hook and line for fishing.

There really was nothing controversial about the point I was trying to get across, but fishing seemed to be a point of controversy.  Most people who commented on the post not only commented on the point I was making but also commented on the fishing.  There was a wide range of thought on fishing.  Some people loved it and wished they could go more often while others said they would never go fishing.  It was just not something that they would ever do or want to do.

Most Helpful Post

Restore A WordPress Blog

I think the most helpful post would have to be How To Restore A WordPress Blog From A Backup!  I had written a post about backing up a blog after I managed to delete my entire blog.

I think there are a lot of blogs out there on how to backup a blog or website but I found that most people I talked to did not know how to use the backup and in many instantses did not even have everything they needed to restore their entire blog.

I decided to do this blog on how to retore a backup and I did this post as a video where I went through all of the steps to restore a blog from a backup.

A Post Whose Success Surprised You

I Deleted My Entire BlogI would have to say without a doubt this would be Oh My @$#%^&%#, I Just Deleted My Entire Blog!!!

I had only just started blogging and my blog as part of a course I was taking from Alex Jeffries.  I had been on the internet for a while and knew how to put up blogs and websites.  I had done some other things but had never blogged before so it was really new to me.  I had written several posts, some of which are still on this blog, which were not very good but they were posts.

One night, late, I was working on my blog.  I am not even sure what I was doing now but it was not writing a post.  I decided to delete another wordpress application on the same domain name.  Not wanting to take a lot of time doing this delete I went into Fantastico and with one click of the mouse I had deleted the wrong wordpress application and my entire blog.  This only took 1 second to accomplish and I no longer had a blog.

I literally wanted to cry.  I called a friend on the east coast to tell her and since it was between 1 and 2 in the morning she thought that someone had died.  It was only my blog.  I was so upset.

I set out to make a new blog and started at that time.

Oh My @$#%^&%#, I Just Deleted My Entire Blog!!!  was the first post on my new blog.  I had been out of sight on the internet for 2 to 3 weeks and had only written a handful of posts previous to this.

So when this post got 38 comments I was truely amazed.

A Post That Didn’t Get The Attention It Deserved

You DoFollowThis is really hard.  I don’t know that I have written any posts that didn’t get the attention they deserved.  There are several that did not do as well as others but I am not sure they really deserved more attention.

I guess if I had to pick one it would have to be Christian Hollingsworth – YouDoFollow Blog Directory.

This post did not have the lowest number of comments.  In fact there are quite a number of posts that did not do as well as this one, but I wanted to get a lot of traffic to this post in order to help out Christian.

I really believed that Christian had a great idea with his new Blog Directory.

So I think I would have to say that this post did not get the attention it deserved.

Post I Am Most Proud Of

I Am Thankful For

My post that I did for Thanksgiving is the post that I am most proud of.

I really enjoyed writing that post and making all of the collages for it.

I love going to that post and just looking at that post.  I can see all of my friends and family looking back at me.  It reminds me how blessed I am to have such good friends, family and blogging buddies.

Well there it is, my 7 Links.

I really enjoyed going back and looking at all of my posts again. This made me really think about what I had written, why I had written it and how my posts were received.
I would like to nominate the following people to do the 7 Links Challenge.

Cheryl Marble — Coffee With Cheryl
Ileane Smith — BasicBlogTips
Monique Caraballo — Razing Mayhem
Kerry Davies — Life, as I Know It
Dawn Kay — DawnKaysBlog

As always I love hearing from you, so leave me a comment and let me know what you think of my picks.

If you find this post interesting or useful could you please share it with your friends. Thank you.

What a great idea for a challenge. I think these categories cover the things I am most interested in when I visit a new blog. I will have to check out all these posts!

Hi Dee Ann,

I’m so pleased to see you taking part in the challenge and hope that you had as much fun going through your older posts as I did.

I’ve just been over the post you included here Dee Ann and was pleased to see that I had commented on them all bar One, so of course I have put that right :)

I think this challenge is a fantastic idea and see that it’s getting more and more popular, mind you it is a pyramid effect and very good at it to. I love the fact that each of us have to pass it onto 5 more bloggers and in fact i found this aspect harder than the 7 links :)

I noticed that you’ve nominated Dawn, Randy has also nominated her so it looks like she’ll be very busy.

Catch up again soon Dee Ann,

Take care, Barry

I really enjoyed this challenge.

At least the part of going through my old posts. That was really fun. I looked at my posts from a whole new prospective. I really had a new appreciation for what I had written and also saw things that I could do differently. But, most of all I have seen my posts progress and I am hoping get better as I have learned a lot.

I thought it was really neat that it was passed on to 5 more people but when I went to do it I found that really difficult. I wanted to ask people before I nominated them but had a really hard time getting in touch with people. people.

Maybe I should have just nominated and not asked.

I really did have fun doing this though.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great week.

Hi Dee Ann,

Your most beautiful post is just that and I think that is really funny, the outcome of your controversial post and that people went into discussion over fishing.

There are a couple I haven’t read which I will do. Great post Dee Ann and glad you took part on the challenge – well, two nominations, I guess you had too really :-)

Take Care

I am glad that you like my choices for the posts.

When I started I thought that it would be really hard but it was really easy to do as I when back through and thought about each post.

I thought I was stumped on the controversial one then I remembered how much controversy there had been over fishing. Even though it was not the point of my post. I thought that was the perfect one.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great week.

Hey Dee Ann,

I’m glad you accepted this challenge Dee Ann. Wow, you were nominated twice.

Well, I loved all your posts. You are definitely right about the most helpful. Learning how to backup your blog a little differently then the way I was doing it was so helpful. You and Barry both have helped me in that area.

I also agree with your most beautiful choice. I did love that one and with you recognizing your Dad, that was so special.

I hope people will take the time to read the others you’ve mentioned here if they haven’t already. They are a great read.

Can’t wait to see what your nominated fellow bloggers come up with. Will look forward to that.

Have a wonderful day Dee Ann.

I am glad you liked my picks. I had fun picking them.

I have also enjoyed reading other peoples picks. It is fun to see all the blog posts in one spot and see what the author thinks of them.

Yes, I was nominated twice, so I decided that I should get it done right away.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great week.

This is an interesting challenge, and I hope Ileane takes it up, because it would be interesting to see her m7 links list. This is a concept I’m gonna look at to get our community more involved too!

Hi Dee Ann

Great post for the challenge Dee Ann and your choice of posts for each Category is excellent. I am surprised to see though that I have some catching up to do as I still have 3 of them to read and comment on! … My Bad! 😉

I particularly found the “My Blog Has Been Hijacked!” post very beneficial Dee Ann and I was a little panicked when I first read it!

I have had the baton passed to me and I will get round to doing my post, but this week offline events has taken up quite a bit of my time.

Have a great day Dee Ann, catch up real soon

Ian :)

I understand offline events.

I seem to be overwhelmed recently with offline events.

All my kids have been home and we celebrated Christmas, had weddings and I am really struggling to keep up online.

Glad you enjoyed my post looking forward to seeing yours.

Thanks for stopping by.

I loved the idea of this post Dee Ann, would you mind if I try it on my blog as well? It was really bad to know about the “blog deletion” episode, just be doubly careful from now on!Liked the simplicity of the website and your posts, will come back here for sure

I love the concept of this challenge. To many times bloggers write good content and are not sure how to promote some of their best or often over looked posts. As a blogger’s popularity grows we have a chance to resurrect a couple of oldies abut goodies and we should do so. We should be interlinking to other posts we have written as often as it makes sense.
This helps to increase the “Sticky Factor” as well as reduce the bounce rate. It really brings our readers deeper into the family if you will.
Thanks for highlighting the challenge and sharing your your older posts.
