Photoshop Made Easy — Part 2: Actions

by Dee Ann Rice on March 13, 2012

This post is a part of a challenge being hosted by Barry Wells.

In this challenge each participant will create 4 videos between February 29 and March 29, 2012. The participant then adds the videos to their blog.

These videos are to be on some aspect of Internet Marketing.

Barry is trying to get as many people as possible to create videos and ad them to their blogs.

To find all of the videos being created for the challenge go to The Video Blog Challenge on Barry’s blog.

My Videos

I am doing a series of 4 videos on Photoshop.

In these videos I will be showing some Photoshop basics for the beginner. You may learn something though even if you have used Photoshop before as I will be showing several different ways of doing some things.

Photoshop Made Easy – Part 2: Actions

My second video is about Actions.

Actions are short cuts that make doing something with several steps automatic.

In this video I will show you how to upload actions to Photoshop, use actions and make your own actions.

After watching the video I hope you will go out and try your hand at actions.  They are fun to use and make many things on Photoshop easier.

As always I love comments.  Let me know what you think of my video and/or what you think of Barry’s challenge.

Be sure you go to The Video Blog Challenge on Barry’s blog and check out the rest of the videos.  You will find a lot of really good information.

Hi Dee Ann,

That error I reported was with FireFox as here I am using Chrome and it opens as it should do :)

Thanks for mentioning and linking to the challenge, it’s very much appreciated.

I think your Photoshop series is going to help so many people. I have a few action scripts myself, but I have bought them for creating ecovers etc.

I didn’t know that we could create our own so that was a big help, thanks.

I’ve added your details to the challenge page on my blog.

Thanks Dee ann,
Barry

Barry,

Hey, no problem with linking to the challenge. I am doing this for your challenge so figure I need to link to it and pitch it. Never can tell I may just win the most visits to your blog part.

I had only used the few actions to create ecovers until recently. Then I found out that I could create my own.

It is really nice to create an action if you are having to set colors because it is just a click of the mouse to get the color the same with out having to go in and manually set the color every time.

Thank you for stopping by and for adding my video to the challenge page.

I agree with Barry, great series you’re doing for the challenge. You’re becoming quite the pro. Isn’t it fun!

For now I just get to say great job since I’m not using that program for my photos. But maybe in the near future. You’ll be my “go to girl” when I do.

Thanks Dee Ann!

Adrienne,

Thank you, I am glad that people like my series. It is a fun one to do.

I really love using Photoshop now that I understand it. I was really frustrated with it when I first started but, you can really do some amazing things on it.

Finding our how to do it all is the challenge so I thought people would enjoy this.

Thanks for stopping by.

Nicely done up Dee Ann!

I did see your first one about removing backgrounds, and this one is wonderful as well :)

Had never really head about actions earlier being used in Photoshop. However, I do wonder as to what kind of actions are these- and what more can they be used for?

Guess there is a great deal you can really do with Photoshop, and this is surely something I had never tried earlier.

Thanks for sharing this wonderful information :)

Harleena,

There really is so much that you can do with Photoshop and I only know just a little bit. I am learning all of the time. I have a book on Photoshop and when I am doing something I usually sit with the book open until I learn that part of it.

Thank for stopping by and have a great day.

You said,
You need to upload actions to your computer, then upload the actions to Photoshop.

I’m sorry, but where do you get tha actions from in the 1st place to load to your computer? I guess I’m just too slow to catch it.

I am really interested in this, I’m not being a wise guy this time. Just slow.

Glen,

A lot of the actions you have to purchase. If you do a search online for Photoshop actions you will find some free ones that you can download.

Don’t worry about asking a question. I am sure if you have the question many other people do also.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.

I’m Back,

I went back to your video and replayed it several times and finally picked up on the buy or free on line statement. Guess I’m just a little hard of hearing. Any way I am hard at work presently trying to get something to download into the correct file.

Glen,

Glad you found the answer.

Hope you are able to do this. Photoshop is rather intimidating at first but the more you work with it the easier everything gets.

If you need any help just let me know.

Good Luck!

Hi Dee Ann,

Well, you make it look so easy. Which I’m sure it is once you get the hang of it. Practice – and looking at your results of your Triple blog box, it’s turned out great :-)

Nice One Dee Ann, well done
Take Care

Julie,

Thank you!It really is easy, just takes a little practice.

I think I really need to do a little more on my triple blog box but it is getting the job done until I get time to mess with it again. I was just trying to get something done quickly when I did that so I would have something to show what I was giving away.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend.

Hey Dee Ann – that’s pretty neat. PSP doesn’t have actions that I know of – looks super easy in PS though :)

What an easy way to make an eBook cover – very cool!

Thanks for sharing the tip!

Linda,

I love making eBook covers this way. It is so easy.

I also love the actions. They make it so easy to do redundant things.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great week.

Hey Dee Ann,

WoW! You’ve come such a long way in making videos! Fantastic, I give you a lot of credit.

I also want to give you a lot of credit for knowing Photoshop and sharing your knowledge with us.

I feel bad I was unable to make Barry’s video challenge but will be going over to his blog and checking out other videos when time allows. He has such a great thing going to help others.

Thanks so much for this useful knowledge about Photoshop Dee Ann,
