Pinterest – Bookmarking Fun!

September 13, 2011 | By Dee Ann Rice

How do you organize the information that you find on different blogs?

I have a really hard time with that.  I will read a blog and want to somehow mark the page so I can go back to it because there is something on the post that I want to be able to refer to in the future.

It seems that this should be an easy task and you are probably thinking isn’t that what bookmarks are for.

I don’t know about you but I have lost so many things in bookmarks.  Maybe I am just not good at organizing my bookmarks.  I do use them all of the time and try to have them well organized and they are invaluable but I still lose things in them

So, If you are like me you may be interested in Pinterest.  It is another way of organizing bits of information that you find on the internet but it uses pictures to remind you what it is you bookmarked and you also write a comment about the post you just bookmarked.

I was introduced to Pinterest by my daughter-in-law this last week end and I found it to be a really neat way to bookmark websites.

Pinterest is like a series of bulletin boards that you can place post-it notes on.  The kind of fun thing is it is also a community so you can go see what other people have posted to their bulletin boards.

I have made a short video to show you how to use Pinterest.

I hope that you enjoy my video and find Pinterest to be useful.

Now that you know what Pinterest is and how to use it, leave me a comment and let me know what you think of it.

If you would like an invitation be sure to mention it in your comment and I will send the invitation to the email address that you give for your comment.

Share

If you find this post interesting or useful could you please share it with your friends. Thank you.

Hey Dee Ann

I was just on networked blogs and seen your blog post popping in lol, all those lil automated things sure do work a treat once set up dont they.

Your video is very helpful and clear, you don’t miss anything out which is always a great way to teach, tbh I have never even heard of that site before.

Have to admit I have not been a very good blog hopper of late, time has been spent on other things, but once I get back to it I shall take pinterest for a lil spin.

Hope your well,

Sally :)

Sally,

I had never heard of that site before either. I know a lot of people are using it for crafty things and things they want to make or get for their homes but when my daughter-in-law showed it to me all I could think was what a great way to save things I want to go back to on internet marketing blogs. I might actually be able to find them again if I saw pictures of them.

I am glad you thought that my video was very helpful, that means a lot.

I do not think I did a very good job producing that video but got tired of messing with it so finally just quit and published it.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great week.

Hi Dee Ann,

My wife just started her Printerest account this week and it had me curious. Bookmarking is an old and out of date process. We really haven’t done much to improve the way bookmarks are done, so this was really interesting to me.

I’ll have to check it out. At first I thought it might be something that only females would find useful, but you’ve shown me some interesting applications I could get from it.

Thanks,

Bryce

Bryce,

My first thought when I saw Pinterest was similar to yours (even though I am a female), this is only for those crafty people that have time to sit around and find lots of things on the internet to make for their homes or recipes that they want to try so it would not be for me.

Then I got to thinking of all of the things I find on the internet that I want to find again and realized this is just a fancy bookmarking site. Due to the layout and the fact there are pictures I thought that I might be able to actually find something again after I bookmark it with more ease.

I think it is great and the added fact that you can go to other peoples Pinterest board and see what they pinned makes it even better.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

Have a great week.

Now that’s a really cool service Dee Ann. Sounds a lot like Evernote which is what I use. Evernote will do images but it’s not as easy as Pinterest seems to be. So on that note, I’d love to get an invitation. I’d like to check this one out and see if it’s easier to use than Evernote.

Appreciate you doing that video, that really helped.

Hope all is well with you.

Adrienne,

I thought about Evernote when I first saw Pinterest. I use Evernote but have never really liked it. Maybe because I found it hard to use. Don’t know that it was hard to use for everyone. You know how somethings just do not click with some people. Guess that is how it was for me, it just did not click.

I really am finding Pinterest easy to use and really like it. Do not have much on it yet but am sure I will in the near future.

I have sent you an invitation.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

Have a great week.

Hi Dee Ann,

Thanks for sharing this good info with us. Pinterest sounds good to bookmark your stuff but you can also see what other people’s good stuff is. From a marketing point of view, it’s a good thing other people can see your stuff.

I’d like to give it a try, please send an invitation. Your video skills are great.

I remember your first video and you’ve improved immensely. Keep up the good work Dee Ann. I always wish you the best. As always thanks for the quality info.

Keep on keeping on,

Terry,

I think you are being nice by saying this video is good compared to my first one. I do not think it is very good at all. There is a lot of noise in the background and I talked to close to the mic for starters. I was so frustrated with it though that I finally just decided to quit editing and produce it. Thank you for the compliment though, it makes me feel good. I really need to work on making videos so that I can do a 5 minute video in less than 3 days (or at least it seems that long).

I have sent you the invitation so you should have it and I hope you like it.

I also like the idea of being able to see other peoples stuff. I think there are settings so you can say who can see what. That way if you had something you did not want to share you could. I have already had some of my stuff repinned, which means other people are visiting the websites that I have pinned up there. That is good as it gets everyone more traffic.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great week.

Dee Ann,

Got to tell you this video is truly so much better than your first ever video.

I remember I told you your breathing was heard to loud. I don’t hear your breathing in this video. Plus there is great music, Plus there are special effect and it’s doesn’t sound like you are too close to the mic on my computer.

I’m really telling you have improved. Your truly are getting better and better.

Keep on keeping on Dee Ann,

Terry,

Thank you, it means a lot to me.

Maybe I am just being go critical of it.

Every time I do a video I try to make it better but sometimes I wonder.

Thanks again for all of your input. It is really appreciated. That is the only way we learn.

Nice one Dee Ann, thanks for sharing.

Hi Dee-Ann, The use of Pinterest for book marking is much more than fun, you have given me a simple but effective way to bookmark sites. How often you go on a blog start to read an article and have to attend another matter, then you have to spend endless time searching for the article again. Pinterest surly can be a useful bookmarking tool in helping to organize sites and your material. I would like to request an invitation. I also truly appreciate that you not only wrote the article on the subject but you took the time to prepare the video to show how it could be used, that really helped. thanks for sharing.

Hi Dee Ann,

Never heard of this before, but I don’t think this is for me.

I don’t really have a problem with bookmarking. This wouldn’t be beneficial for me, as I probably would never go there. I sign up on so many places that I forget about them and I have so many things in my toolbar that I forget to look there as well..I guess that is what happens when you have too many things going on at once..lol.

I do occasionally use the RSS feeds in my toolbar, which is awesome – but anyway, I think your video was great and thanks for sharing your awesome find!

Have a wonderful day!

Great tool! I am loving this ;)
I never understood bookmarks because mine are always so messy…

I definitely want an invitation to this and I appreciate you sending it on.

Hopefully this tool will help me to get organized. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve save and bookmarked a site that I could not find again when I went looking at my bookmarks!

This is some great helpful info…thanks again!

Hi Dee Ann

I love your videos Dee Ann they are so easy to follow and understand and always full of interesting and great content.

I would love to receive an invitation for this; I think this is really cool! :)

I have quite a few book marks as I am sure we all do, and at times it can be difficult to find what you’re looking for, even though they have been categorised and in directories!

So this something I really want to check out. Thanks for sharing this Dee Ann and great post…

Take care, catch up soon

That’s a great service Dee Ann! I really love it. I think it is better than the traditional bookmarking. You have all of your favorite links in one place and you don’t have to import your bookmarks when you change your browser, right? I think that’s very useful if you use different computers.

I’d love to get an invitation. :D Thanks a lot in advance.

This really is fun and I think a lot easier than the traditional bookmarking. Other people can see what you pin also which is nice to promote something. I put up Barry’s Kindle post and a lot of people have repinned that one. He should be getting some traffic off of that I would think.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.

Great video Dee Ann Rice! Just like you, bookmarking through my browsers toolbar was very irritating. I didn’t even bother to create folders to categorize them all. I just placed them in my bookmark area. So I want to have this Pinterest also. Your suggestion would be a great help for me. I wish you that you can also send me an invite. Brankica,

I think that is a problem with a lot of the tools we use on the internet. They are very addictive. It is really hard to just spend a small amount of time on sites like Facebook or Pinterest. They both useful for what we are doing but also to much fun.

I also like to just go and surf Pinterest. I try to keep the time I spend there down though.
