Alexa is a web information company that computes traffic rankings by analyzing the Web usages of millions of Alexa Toolbar users as well as several other data sources.

After all of this analyzing Alexa then gives each website a rank. The best rank is a 0 and the worst is up in the millions or billions. You want your Alexa ranking to continue get closer to 0.

Alexa defines Traffic Rank as the following:

“The traffic rank is based on three months of aggregated historical traffic data from millions of Alexa Toolbar users and data obtained from other, diverse traffic data sources, and is a combined measure of page views and users (reach). As a first step, Alexa computes the reach and number of page views for all sites on the Web on a daily basis. The main Alexa traffic rank is based on a value derived from these two quantities averaged over time (so that the rank of a site reflects both the number of users who visit that site as well as the number of pages on the site viewed by those users). The three-month change is determined by comparing the site’s current rank with its rank from three months ago. For example, on July 1, the three-month change would show the difference between the rank based on traffic during the first quarter of the year and the rank based on traffic during the second quarter.”

Many things affect your Alexa ranking.

If you want to increase your Alexa ranking (get closer to 0) there are several things you can do. I will go through a few of them here.

1. Alexa Toolbar

The first thing you should do is get the Alexa Tool Bar. You will see the tool bar for Firefox and Chrome below. The tool bar is just an extension that is added to your browser. Go to Alex Tool Bar to down load this extension.

.

After you have the Alexa Tool Bar installed on your browser, you will be able to see the Alexa ranking of any site you visit including your own. Below you will see the ranking for www.deeannrice.com while I was writing this post.

You can see that my site is ranked at 333,543 for the Alexa traffic rank. The tool bar also gives you other statistics about your blog. I think I need to look into my blog being very slow.

There is another reason for having the Alexa Tool Bar though and that is it will help your blog rank with Alexa. Remember earlier I said that Alexa uses traffic data acquired from all the people who use the Alexa Tool Bar and other data resource to produce the Alexa rankings.

2. Back links

Another thing that affects your Alexa ranking is the number of back links your blog has. If you noticed in the above image of my Alexa Ranking, I have 65 sites linking in. So getting back links is important. It is also important where these back links come from. You want to be linked to sites that are good sites offering good information to people who come to the site. These back links should not come from spammy sites. If they do your Alexa Ranking will begin to drop.

When people come to your blog and leave a comment this will create a back link from your site to their site. For this reason you want to check out the website the commenter is from before just letting them leave a comment on your blog. A while back I had several comments that were from static sales page websites. There was no blog just a sales page for real estate, insurance or something else. I noticed that my Alexa ranking started to fall and continued to fall until I removed some of those comments.

This is why it is important to monitor your comments and it is also important to go and comment back for the person that commented on your site. They will give you a back link and you will give them one.

3. Fresh Content

Alexa also wants to see continual fresh content. This goes along with getting comments. In order to get lots of comments you will need to have a continual flow of fresh content that contributes information to your followers.

This means that a static sales page is not going to achieve a good Alexa ranking. If you have a sales page, that is great but, do a blog along with it. It will be somewhere that people can come and learn something about your product and you can contribute information to your followers.

I hope this helps you to understand what Alexa Ranking is and how to increase your Alexa Ranking.

Leave A Comment ~ I Love Comments!

If you have more information on Alexa or would like to add more methods to increase a websites Alexa Ranking please leave a comment. I would love to hear more information on Alexa, Alexa Ranking and how it works.

It was Saturday morning so my husband, Bill, wanted to go fishing. We asked my cousin, Gary, to go with us and my 14 year old son, Noah, went along as well.

You may be saying what does this have to do with any kind of marketing on the internet.

Well, as I sat and watched Noah while we were fishing all I could think is “this is what I have been reading about this past week”. I have read several posts and article on the topic of what I call “preparing vs. doing”.

We fish mainly for Crappies (said Croppies) like the one below. So I just use the same bait all of the time. I am not picky and the fish do not seem to be either.

I usually catch the most fish of anyone in the boat, much to my husband’s disgust since he taught me how to fish, so what does it matter which bait I use as long as I catch fish.

Bill, Gary and I start out fishing while Noah starts preparing his line with just the right hook, swivel, lure, crappie nibble, you name it.

You see him to the left fixing up his line while Gary is fishing.

By the time I had caught my first fish Noah finally had his line ready to go in the water. There he is on the right with some really fancy lure, that crappies will probably not bite on, ready to fish.

That lasted a few minutes and I caught a couple more fish. Bill and Gary were catching fish. We were not catching a lot and some were small so we had to throw them back but we were catching fish off and on.

Oh, that lure must not of worked. There is Noah again getting more tackle out and he has already changed his lure in the picture below.

Lets not forget that all of this work getting ready for fishing had made him hungry so he had to take a break and eat a bagel.

Meanwhile he has still not caught a fish but has spent a lot of time preparing.

Now, he is so exhausted from preparing for fishing and eating he has to take a nap.

I think you probably get the picture by now.

In the end we kept a bout 9 really nice fish and threw back about as many. It was not a great day out fishing. We have gone out and caught 30 or 40 before but we did OK and all had fun.

Noah however did not catch a single fish. He spent more time then anyone else preparing and at one point even created his own bait (we use little plastic things that look like worms) out of something he had in his tackle box.

My same bait that I have used many times over, has resided on my pole for at least a year and the fish have nibbled on so it is not all there, allowed me to catch more fish than anyone else in the boat.

Now back to what does this have to do with any kind of marketing or anything on the internet.

Noah reminds me of myself a lot of times when it comes to marketing or blogging or what ever it is I am doing on the internet or for that matter whatever business endeavor I am involved in at the time.

I like many people tend to spend a lot of time getting ready to do something. Through all of the preparation I never seem to actually get around to doing what it is that I have set out to do.

Meanwhile other people are just doing it and getting ahead a lot faster than I am.

I have read so many articles and posts lately talking about this type of thing, so when I watched Noah it really struck me. I thought I would give this example as it is kind of comical but really hit home for me.

I have to remember to do and not prepare. It does not matter if I have the best looking website, that can be improved on over time. I don’t need just the right fonts, I can always go back and change them and I could go on and on. I just need to get the website up. I need to start writing posts, even if they are kind of funny like this one. I am just using these as examples as I am already doing them, not to say they don’t need improving on. There are lots of things I need to start doing instead of planning though as I am sure you have those things also.

So if this is you, you are not alone. We all do this or at least most of us do. If you are the person that does not I do not want to offend you. We just need to be more like you.

I am starting a new business venture along with my internet marketing. I am determined to be a doer and not a planner in this new venture. I want to be successful and the way I will get there is by doing, even if it is not perfect. If you want to know more about my new business venture check out the tab “work with me” under Pages in the sidebar.

The next time you catch yourself planning and planning and planning, stop and think about this funny little post and start doing.

Hope someone got something out of this. It was kind of fun to write and I told Noah I was going to do it. Now I am going to have him read it in hopes that maybe he will start doing and not preparing.

I hope you are all enjoying your weekend and for those Americans have a great 4th of July. Everyone else can enjoy the 4th of July also as you have one too, it is just not a holiday for you.

This is the first of many blog posts that I will make on this blog as I continue on my Internet Marketing Journey. Even though I have been internet marketing for about 2 years now I feel that I have just started my journey or maybe started a new adventure on my journey of Internet Marketing.

I have just finished setting up the New Super Affiliate marketing websites, which include this blog and my affiliate site at www.NewSuperbAffiliate.com.

New Super Affiliate is Alex Jeffreys program to help both the newbie marketer and the marketer that may have some experience create a successful Internet Affiliate Marketing Business.

Alex really has a great system that is well laid out and really easy to learn and follow. I am amazed at how extensive the setup was. It took me about a week to do it full time but will be worth it in the end. The videos are great and extremely helpful.

I am now on my way to having a million dollar internet business.

Affiliate and internet marketing are all about building a list. Without the list you can not make any money. NSA’s whole focus is on list building and getting even the newbie marketer setup to start building a list and earning money.

The one thing that struck me about what Alex Jeffreys (founder of NSA) is the statement that kept being made — “If you are not marketing, you are not making money.”

This is so true. Many of us who think we market on the internet never really make any money. This is because we are great at setting something up and making websites that look just perfect but in the end that is where we stop, with a very pretty well set up system that no one ever sees. If no one sees it, it does not matter how pretty it is.

Alex Jeffreys really pushes that the set up is important but the marketing is where the money is. The set up is only preparation for the future and he really caries though in his course on the marketing end.
